FROM THE PASTOR’S PEN..... What a wonderful day Sunday! As a church, we had the privilege of celebrating with Pat Johnson on her decision to follow the biblical pattern of believer’s baptism and join the church. Pat has been on a journey of discovery and finally found peace with God and we celebrate that with her.
Also, as a point of privilege I would like to thank the church family for your expressions of support and encouragement to me over the past 2 weeks. It is a sweet reminder of how blessed that I am to pastor this great church.
There are several things coming up in the future we need to be focused on. First, in two weeks we will be receiving the Margaret Lackey State Missions Offering. Our goal is $6,250. Please know this is a very important offering for our state convention. The devastation of Hurricane Harvey that is happening in Texas right now is a prime example. Some of the proceeds of this offering are used for Disaster Relief. When the state convention calls and asks for teams from Jackson County the call will come to Stan Aycock and FBC Gautier will become part of the recovery. The State Missions Offering will assist in that ministry.
Second, the Deacon election is coming up on September 17th. I believe this is a critical time in the life of the church. These men are called out and ordained to serve the body of Christ. These need to be men that understand the role of a deacon and are willing to serve faithfully in that role. Remember, this is not a popularity contest. This is following a biblical pattern for calling out the right men to serve the congregation.
Finally, remember the 75th Anniversary Celebration that is coming up on September 23rd and 24th. This will be a great week-end of remembering the past, celebrating the present and committing to the future. Tickets for the Saturday night event will go on sale next Sunday. I promise you this is one of those SAVE THE DATE events.
Always remember that God loves you and I love you, Bro. David
BRO. BILL, Music & Education ..... All of our musical activities are in full swing for the fall. Sunday afternoons at 5:00 PM “God’s Groupies” and “WOW – Wonders of Worship” provide exciting, fun, and fulfilling musical experiences for our children ages 3 years through 6th grade. Emily Watts, Dodie Aycock, Theresa Lewis, and Marcy Warning are serving as the leadership team for these groups. Come see what is happening – there will likely be a surprise or two!
Handbells are back starting this week on Tuesday evenings. At this writing, I am anticipating a nearly full bell choir. This means that our church will be enjoying the addition of handbells to our worship services very soon. There may be some opportunities for ministry outside of our church for the Handbell choir as well! Church Orchestra is holding regular rehearsals on Wednesdays from 5:45PM until 6:30 PM. We have a great core group but there is room for many more who would like to share their musical talents playing with us.
The Worship Choir will be starting on Christmas music this week and there is no better time to come join the fun! Rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM and new singers for all parts are welcome. The fellowship is sweet and we even find opportunity to worship as we rehearse.
September will be an exciting month in the life of our church and in our opportunities for worship! September 10, our service will center around the call to missions on our State Missions offering. The next week, September 17, we will celebrate the Lord’s Supper during the morning worship service. September concludes with the celebration of our church’s 75th Anniversary. What an exciting array of opportunities for worshipping together! Plan to join us each week as the family of God!
OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD ANGEL TREE is in the hall behind the sanctuary. Please stop by and take a star to help fill our shoe boxes this year.
Kris Staup, INTERIM YOUTH MINISTER..... It has been a busy few weeks and plans are coming together. Our Wednesday night Bible study is focused on learning about the Spiritual Armor which will be the backbone of the youth program. If the student knows the spiritual armor and how to implement it, then they will be able to tackle any evil that stands against them.
Beginning on Sunday, September 3rd at 5:00 PM, we will begin creating a play/production that will be performed before the church at a later date. This will allow young people’s creative sides to come out. On September 23rd the youth will be painting Sue’s Home. This project will be headed up by Samantha Schwartz. We have a lot more coming which will be announced at a later date. Please pray as the Youth Committee and myself begin to fill out the calendar.

*September 13: Vegetable soup, Potato soup, salad & dessert
My name is Samantha Schwartz, and I have grown up in this church. I am an American Heritage Girl seeking the Stars and Stripes (which is similar to the Boy Scout's Eagle Scout award). My project consists of painting the outside of one of Sue's Home's cabins, installing curtains, organizing a cottage, and adding some decorative touches. First and foremost, I need prayers from you. In addition to prayers, I will be hosting a *Wednesday night supper on September 13th. I need your support! Thank you so much for your prayers! I look forward to seeing you on Wednesday night!
